WE INTRODUCE OURSELVES
A BRIEF HISTORY

In our family, the culture of grapes and wine is passed down from father to son. One of our great-grandfathers was the Badacsony vintner for Prince Esterházy until 1945, and later continued farming on a small vineyard he purchased from the state. At the time of the political change, Tihamér Sipos laid the foundations of the Sipos Winery, based on the family's small vineyard and cellar. Our winery has continuously developed, our plots have grown, and we have built a modern cellar to get the most out of our grapes.

We currently cultivate 7 hectares of land.

For us, winemaking is always a creative process, a sacrament, where besides us and the wines, only God is present.

We make wines that we enjoy drinking ourselves, because for us, every wine has a story, be it a historical event, a moment of love, or even a joke.We believe that in addition to traditions, we must also bring fresh ideas into our winemaking. We do this through our diverse programs, such as our Theatre Evenings, where visitors can meet actors awarded with the Jászai Mari Prize. We also do this through our renewed labels, which feature hidden movie references (Olasz of the Rizling, Szürkebarát GOT (Game of Thrones)). Regarding our wines, we want to show the uniqueness of our wine region and highlight it. We want to demonstrate the opportunities provided by our terroir through our wines.

Winery

Near the Sipos Winery, grape cultivation takes place on 7 hectares of land, an inheritance that has been passed down through the Sipos family for generations.

Our winery was one of the first private cellars to open its doors in Badacsony. The culture of grapes and wine has been passed down from father to son in our family. My great-grandfather was the vintner for Prince Eszterházy in Badacsony until 1945, after which he continued farming on a small plot of land he purchased from the state. He maintained the traditions of the great old harvests, hosting many tourists and famous people at the Szentkirályi Villa in Badacsony. His most famous guest was Imre Nagy, who spent his last peaceful civilian day here during a harvest on October 22, 1956, as evidenced by a plaque on the wall of the house.

We share the unique stories of our wines with the audience at our wine tastings (as each variety has its own story, be it a historical event, a moment of love, or even a joke). Guests can supplement their time with oven-baked dinners or cold platters. If you arrive by bike, you can also recharge in the panoramic jacuzzi on the terrace or in the sauna.

In keeping with the traditions of the Badacsony historic wine region, our winery mainly produces white wines, and among them, we favor the varieties typical of the area, such as Szürkebarát (Pinot Gris), Muscat Ottonel, Kéknyelű, and Olaszrizling (Welschriesling).

The majority of our wines are made using a reductive process, but some batches, such as Olasz of the Rizling, also receive new barrel aging. Among our popular wines, the fruity Balatoni Délután (Balaton Afternoon), which is the result of a blend of Muscat, Olaszrizling, Szürkebarát, and Rózsakő, stands out. Its elegant counterpart is the semi-dry Balatoni Éjszakák (Balaton Nights), which we produce by blending Rózsakő, Olaszrizling, and Kéknyelű. The winery's first sparkling wine, Sipos Altinger (now known as Sipos Molnár17), was bottled in the spring of 2020. It is a batch that was spontaneously fermented in a tank, and is an exciting and unique blend of Rózsakő, Szürkebarát, and Ottonel Muscat. The raw material for our Kéknyelű comes from a 1.2-hectare plot planted in 1995. Half of it fermented in a steel tank and the other half in a 500-liter new barrel, then aged for a few months.
